Setting Language Preferences in Internet Explorer

The PT Admin application is designed to allow users to view the contents of PT application Web pages in their preferred language. To enable this to occur, language preference(s) must first be selected from the list of languages maintained by Internet Explorer 5:

1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop and click Properties, or open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then click Internet Options.
2. On the General tab, click Languages.
3. Click Add.
4. Select the language(s) you want to add from the list provided, or add your language in the box marked User Defined.

If you speak several languages, you can arrange, in order of priority, the languages that will be used by the browser. To do this:

1. Click one of the languages you have added, as directed in the previous instructions.
2. Click the Move Up or Move Down button to prioritize the language.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until all the languages that you speak have been correctly prioritized.

Note that it is important to specify all your language preferences in the browser. The language in which Web pages will be displayed depends on the interaction of browser settings and language folders that are maintained in the application. The following examples are given to clarify this relationship.

Example A: You have chosen Japanese as your first preference in the browser. The application examines the language preferences in the browser and then looks for a folder in the PT Admin application that contains the lingo file for Japanese. Because one exists in this example, the UI will appear in Japanese.

Example B: You have chosen American English as your first preference. The application again looks for the folder corresponding to the first language preference set in the browser. When no matching folder is found, the application looks for a match with a similar language group. It finds the lingo file for Canadian English and uses this for the browser settings.

Example C: You have chosen Japanese as your first preference in the browser. The application will not find the corresponding lingo file nor a lingo file in a similar language group. In this case, it will try your second preference (American English), find the corresponding file, and use that in the browser settings. If there were no match, the application would continue down the preference list until it found a matching lingo file. If there is no match, the browser settings default to American English (en-us).
