Setting Windows NT Challenge/Response Authentication for the PT Admin Application

As a Web-based application, it is important to supply the PT Admin application with an authentication method that provides a secure and transparent logon procedure between clients and servers located in the same domain or in a trusted domain. In a challenge/response sequence, the client computer uses its currently established logon information to identify itself to the server. The user receives no requests for these credentials. All communication occurs between the client and server, using multiple secure and encrypted communications.

To set Windows NT Challenge/Response Authentication

1. Start Internet Service Manager. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, point to Microsoft Internet Information Server, and then click Internet Service Manager (ISM).
2. In ISM, expand the Internet Information Server (IIS) node in the left pane.
3. Expand the local IIS server.
4. Expand the Administration Web Site.
5. Right click virtual directory for the application, in this example "PT," to bring up the menu, then click Properties.
6. Select the Directory Security tab and click the Edit box in the area entitled Anonymous Access and Authentication Control. The Authentication Methods dialog box appears.
7. Click the check box for Windows NT Challenge/Response. If check boxes for any other authentication methods are selected, click to deselect them.
8. Click OK to finish.
