Understanding and Deploying Arenas
The PT application implemented in Scenario 3 is designed as a generic application that can be adapted to multiple arenas. In the context of the BDG, a PT application arena is a single database for a group whose personnel performance the application tracks, such as a business or a school, and the languages in which that arena can be deployed.
Scenario 3 includes the files to construct two arenas.
- Generic arena. In the files that support the generic arena, business or school concepts such as "product team" or "class" are expressed in the generic arena as "groups." Employees or students are "individuals"; tests, labs, and practicals are "activities"; teacher and managers are "contacts"' and so on. Arenas include lingo.xml files that are customized for the targeted enterprise, and each lingo file includes the vocabulary text strings within that arena. Scenario 3 includes the files to deploy the generic arena in U.S. English, German, and Japanese. The Eval database included with the PT application stores sample data for this generic arena.
- Main Street Hardware. Scenario 3 provides a lingo.xml file that implements the application specified by Litware's Main Street Hardware customers. You can replace the generic arena with the Main Street Hardware arena by following the instructions in Changing the Generic Arena.
See Deploying Multiple Arenas for information about deploying two different arenas on your installation of BackOfficeŽ Server.
