Assessing Staffing Needs
In order to produce international software and localize the PT application for Germany, Japan, and the United States, LitWare needs people who know the languages and conventions of those locales. Staff members are needed to fill the following distinct roles:
- Experts who provide advice on local conventions such as formatting of times, dates, numerals, and currency; calendar preferences; address layout; and sort order. These people also provide valuable input on the application's overall usability for a given locale and offer advice on color selection and graphic design.
- Translators who localize strings in the user interface, such as messages and descriptive text. Merging XML Files to Present User Interfaces Dynamically describes the use of XML lingo files that simplify this task for the translators.
- Testers who test each localized version of the PT application. In addition to the testing that is performed on a nonlocalized application, the localized application is examined for cosmetic bugs in the user interface and the text of each translated message is verified at run time.
