About Platform Development Best Practices

There has always been a lot of great documentation available to tell you how to use Microsoft APIs in your applications. But, by its nature, the documentation usually doesn't consider broad product design goals, like lowering TCO. That's why we created Platform Development Best Practices (PDBP).

PDBP starts by looking at the high-level product goals faced by application designers. These types of goals typically transcend technologies and APIs. PDBP gives you only the implementation specifics that relate to your goals. The larger discussion of APIs is left to the appropriate section in the SDK.

In each edition, we'll tackle a new design initiative, suggest best practices for achieving the goals for your application, and present guidelines for implementing those practices on the Windows platform.
