When you try to change the password on a Microsoft Exchange Client computer that is running Novell VLM client software, the following error can occur.

The NT Domain password could not be changed. A required action  was not
successful due to an unspecified error.

To solve the problem, try the following troubleshooting suggestions.

• Install Gateway Services for NetWare on the primary domain controller where the user accounts are located.
• Ensure the Novell client is running the latest Novell connectivity files.
• Ensure the remote procedure call (RPC) service is configured to start automatically. This can be changed by choosing Services in the Control Panel.
• Ensure the registry on the primary domain controller has the following entries:

  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA
  

  If the primary domain controller has NWLINK installed, add the following entry to the registry:

  NetWareClientSupport:REG_DWORD:0x1
  

  If the primary domain controller has TCP/IP installed, add the following entry to the registry:

  TcpipClientSupport:REG_DWORD:0x1
  

• Ensure the primary domain controller is running the same version of Windows NT Server as the Microsoft Exchange Server, including all service packs.
