Optional Components

You can install optional components and benefit from added features such as connectivity to other messaging systems and advanced security. For example, if your users have to send messages to Internet users, you can install Internet Mail Service. If you have Microsoft Schedule+ users who are on both Microsoft Mail for PC Networks and Microsoft Exchange Server, you can install the Schedule+ Free/Busy Connector so that users on each system can view each other's free and busy information.

The following optional components can be installed on a Microsoft Exchange Server computer.

Key Management Manages security information used for digitally signing and encrypting messages sent between users within an organization. For more information, see Chapter 7, "Security."

Internet Mail Service Enables users on Microsoft Exchange Server to send messages to and receive messages from users on the Internet. Internet Mail Service also can be used to connect sites over a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) backbone.

Microsoft Mail Connector Enables users on Microsoft Exchange Server to send messages to and receive messages from users on Microsoft Mail for PC Networks and Microsoft Mail for AppleTalk Networks (now known as Quarterdeck Mail). Microsoft Mail Connector includes all components required to connect to Microsoft Mail post offices, including the directory synchronization component and the Schedule+ Free/Busy Connector.

X.400 Connector Can be configured to connect sites or to route messages to foreign X.400 systems. The X.400 Connector conforms to the 1984 and 1988 International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee X.400 standards.

Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes Enables Microsoft Exchange Server users to exchange messages with Lotus Notes users.

Microsoft Exchange Connector for SNADS Enables Microsoft Exchange Server and IBM SNA Distribution System (SNADS) users to exchange messages.

Microsoft Exchange Connector for IBM OfficeVision/VM (PROFS) Enables Microsoft Exchange Server and OfficeVision/VM users to exchange messages.

Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail Provides message transfer and directory synchronization between Microsoft Exchange Server and Lotus cc:Mail systems.
