Creating and verifying daily backups is a critical step in successful disaster recovery. Failure to verify backups is one of the most common mistakes administrators make because they often assume that backup tapes are being swapped and that data is being properly backed up. Make it part of your daily routine to review all backup logs, and then follow up on any errors or inconsistencies.
Full (normal) backups reset transaction logs and then remove them, which creates free disk space. Free disk space is less of an issue if circular logging is enabled. If circular logging is not enabled and daily full backups fail, transaction logs are not purged, and they can fill up the entire transaction log disk drive.
