Implement an archiving plan that enables your users to move server-based messages either to their local store files or to a disk or server that is separate from the information store. This reduces the size of the server-based information store. Otherwise, data is reduced in the information store but added to another area of the same disk or logical drive.
The impact of storing .pst files on the server disk is considerable because .pst storage maintains messages in both Rich Text Format (RTF) and ASCII format. Because you cannot set disk space limits on .pst files, you might want to dedicate a file server for archiving .pst files. Include all sensitive data in backup strategies, including users' .pst files. Use encryption when creating .ost files and .pst files.
