What to Measure

Items to consider for measurement should be chosen for their contribution to development of trend data and performance tuning. Trend data becomes valuable for capacity planning. You should consider the following when planning your system:

• Number of mailboxes
• Number of distribution lists
• Number of messages delivered per time period by destination area (such as the Internet)
• Storage size by mailbox by department
• Top n senders
• Top n recipients
• Gateway and bridgehead traffic
