Performance Monitor Counter Configurations

The Performance Monitor counter configurations described in the previous section should be used under normal operating conditions. However, when monitors detect an anomaly in the messaging system, it is necessary to focus the monitoring for the problem server(s), using the Performance Monitor configurations described in the following tables. Run these instances of Performance Monitor on any server where you suspect a problem. The added detail is meant to make troubleshooting easier and should not be run constantly due to the increase in system load. These secondary monitors are intended to chart items that change over time until the problem has been resolved.

The following is a Performance Monitor configuration for detailed, secondary monitoring for all server types. Configure chart settings as follows: Update interval is 5 seconds, Vertical Max is 100, Chart Type is Graph.
Object Counter Scale Instance
Processor %Processor Time 1.0 0 (,1,2,3 if multiprocessor)
Process %Processor Time 1.0 MAD
Process %Processor Time 1.0 DSAMAIN
Process %Processor Time 1.0 STORE

MSExchangeMTA Work Queue Length 1.0 N/A
MSExchangeIS Private Messages Delivered/Minute 1.0 N/A
MSExchangeIS Private Messages Sent/Minute 1.0 N/A
MSExchangeDS Pending Replication Synchronizations 1.0 N/A
MSExchangeDS Remaining Replication Updates 1.0 N/A
MSExchangeMTA Messages/Second 10 N/A

Servers with the Internet Mail Service installed will have these additional counters configured. Configure chart settings as follows: Update interval is 5 seconds, Vertical Max is 100, Chart Type is Graph.
