Mailboxes

In most Microsoft Exchange Server implementations, the mailbox object is both the most numerous and most critical. It is therefore imperative to be able to address needs and problems with mailboxes quickly and efficiently. The Administrator program covers the majority of issues you will encounter with mailboxes. The following tools are recommended in cases where the Administrator program does not provide the necessary functionality.

In large, multisite organizations, when a user moves across site boundaries, it is not a simple matter to move that user's mailbox directory information and mailbox contents. Procedures should be defined that efficiently move user information and mailbox content data to the destination. This requires the user to store mailbox contents in personal folders (.pst) prior to the move and restore the contents from the personal folders after the move. After the user has stored the mailbox contents in personal folders, export the user data to a file using the Export command in the Administrator program, remove the mailbox from the local site, and change the file that was exported to reflect the new site location. If necessary, you can then import the mailbox into the new site. After completion, the user must move any mailbox contents back to the new home server. There are some utilities on this resource kit that can help automate much of the process.
