To help you locate and interpret information easily, the SMS 2.0 Resource Guide uses the following conventions.
| Convention | Meaning |

| Bold | Menus and menu commands, command buttons, dialog box and tab titles and options, command lines, command-line options, and portions of syntax that must be typed exactly as shown. | 
| Italic | Terms that are being introduced, book titles, and variables for which you must supply a specific value. For example, if a procedural step asks you to type filename, you must type the actual name of a file. | 
| Initial Capitals | Names of applications, programs, and named windows. | 
| ALL CAPITALS | Names of acronyms, keyboard keys, and macros. Unless otherwise indicated, you can use uppercase or lowercase letters when you type directory paths or filenames in a dialog box or at the command prompt. | 
Monospace | Examples, sample command lines, program code, and program output. | 
    | Introduces a procedure. | 
| Windows NT | Refers to operating system and networking functionality that is available in both Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation. |
