Conventions in This Guide

To help you locate and interpret information easily, the SMS 2.0 Resource Guide uses the following conventions.

ConventionMeaning
BoldMenus and menu commands, command buttons, dialog box and tab titles and options, command lines, command-line options, and portions of syntax that must be typed exactly as shown.
ItalicTerms that are being introduced, book titles, and variables for which you must supply a specific value. For example, if a procedural step asks you to type filename, you must type the actual name of a file.
Initial CapitalsNames of applications, programs, and named windows.
ALL CAPITALSNames of acronyms, keyboard keys, and macros. Unless otherwise indicated, you can use uppercase or lowercase letters when you type directory paths or filenames in a dialog box or at the command prompt.
MonospaceExamples, sample command lines, program code, and program output.
Procedure Bullet  Introduces a procedure.
Windows NTRefers to operating system and networking functionality that is available in both Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation.


Note   The instructions, dialog boxes, and windows displayed in this book reflect the Windows NT Server version 4.0 user interface and the SQL Server™ version 6.5 user interface. If you are using a different version of Windows NT Server or SQL Server, the instructions, dialog boxes, and windows that you see on your screen might differ from those shown in this guide.
