In the General tab of the Network Discovery Properties dialog box, you will notice a check box for slow networks. You can select this check box to inform Network Discovery that some of the discovery processes will be taking place over slow communications links. As defined here, a slow communications link is anything below 64 KB. When you select this check box, Network Discovery will modify its behavior by increasing timeouts and throttling down the number of outstanding requests it will allow at any one time.
If you are trying to perform discovery within a slow network environment, you might want also to increase the duration of time that Network Discovery runs in order to compensate for the inherent delays in gathering the required information. In addition, schedule Network Discovery during off-peak hours, when there is greater network bandwidth. For more information, see “Schedule,” earlier in this chapter.
