Running Remote Tools

After the Remote Tools Client Agent is installed on a client computer, you can initiate a Remote Control viewing session (and all other Remote Tools) from within the SMS Administrator console by navigating to Collections.

Systems Management Server   Site Database (site code - site name)      Collections

Under Collections, select a collection, right-click the client computer you want to view, point to All Tasks, and then click Use Remote Tools.

Although the Remote Tools window will state that it is “connected” to a client, no persistent connection is maintained between the server and the client. The “connection” is actually just a confirmation that the client responded to the server-side query. For the most part, Remote Tools and diagnostics are composed of periodic “bursts” of UDP, TCP, or IPX transmissions to and from the client agent.
