Running Remote.exe from the Command Line

Although the MMC-based SMS Administrator console serves as a front end for the Remote Tools functions, all remote tools are available directly from the Remote.exe program. This program resides in the SMS\Bin\I386 directory.

The command-line options for Remote.exe are:

REMOTE <Address_Type> <Address> [\\<Site Server Name>\]

To identify a client by its resource ID, use the following command:

REMOTE 0 <Resource_ID> [\\<Site Server Name>\]

If no command-line options are used, a user-friendly interface appears. You can use this interface to set the following parameters:

Address type
The type of address you are about to specify to identify the client (NetBIOS Name, IP address, or IPX network number).
Name of the client
Any valid NetBIOS, IP, or IPX name, address, or network number (for example, 170.90.40.6, “WRKS45”, 00002425:A4DC5622).

When you have set these parameters, click OK to connect to the client.

After a connection to the client is established, you can click any of the available toolbar buttons in the SMS Remote Tools console to execute Remote Control functions on the client.
