Wuser32 Command-Line Options

In addition to the logging features, the Remote Control Agent also has command-line options that provide additional functionality in SMS 2.0.

If Wuser32 is not actively running on a Windows 95 or Windows 98 computer, it can be started by running the executable file. If an agent is already running, the new instance will immediately start, determine that an instance of Wuser is already running, and will then shut down. The command to start the agent is:

WUSER32

Windows NT requires the agent to be started as a standard service using either the Service Control Manager, or Net Start. If, for testing purposes, it becomes necessary to run the Windows NT Remote Control Agent as a non-service, which places the agent in the context of the logged-on user, the following No Service command option can be used:

WUSER32 /nosvc

The /X option can be used to stop the Remote Control Agent. The agent under Windows 95 and Windows 98 no longer has the [STOP AGENT] option, and it is not present in the standard Task List (using CTRL-ALT-DEL). To stop the agent, use the command:

WUSER32 /X
