Installing the Keyboard and Mouse Virtual Device
Drivers on Windows 2000 Clients

The Virtual Device Drivers give a Remote Control session full keyboard, mouse, and control-key pass through to the client computer. Before these drivers are loaded, Remote Control cannot move the mouse, insert keystrokes, or carry out anything beyond strict client-viewing functions. (The drivers are the equivalent of the RCHELP and KBSTUFF drivers used by Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0.)

When the SMS 2.0 Remote Tools component is installed to a Windows 2000 client, a WARNING item might appear in the Windows 2000 Task Bar to indicate the need for user input. If present, the warning will indicate that the “SMS Virtual Mouse Device” does not contain the Microsoft Digital Signature, and it will ask if you want to continue the installation.

Procedure Bullet  To allow the necessary virtual drivers to install

  1. Click YES to allow installation of the SMS Virtual Mouse Device.
  2. Click YES to allow installation of the SMS Virtual Keyboard Device.
