The SMS Remote Control feature can interact or conflict with third-party remote control applications. Therefore, a check is made to determine if conflicting third-party remote control applications are present on the client before installing the Remote Tools component. If conflicting agents are present (such as Intel’s LanDesk agent or Novell’s ZEN agent), the Remote Tools component will not install. Instead, it will be flagged as a component that is Not Available in the client-side Systems Management application. (Open the Components tab of the System Management icon on the client’s Control Panel.)
In this situation, a Status Message is generated by CCIM and sent to the SMS site to alert the administrator that the Remote Tools component failed to install on the client. Although the reason for the failure will not be contained in the status message, the client-side Remctrl.log file will provide this information.
Every 30 days CCIM will try to install components set to Not Available. If the conflicting third-party agent has been removed in the meantime, the Remote Tools component will be installed at that time.
To force an immediate attempt to install the Remote Tools component, double-click the client-side Systems Management icon to carry out a Repair Installation on the Remote Tools component. This will immediately signal a retry to CCIM, which, if no conflicts are found, will result in the SMS 2.0 Remote Tools component being installed to the client workstation.
