The Stoprc utility stops or starts the Wuser32 agent on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT computers. This forces the client-side remote tools agent to re-establish a valid TCP/IP address on which to listen. This is especially useful on laptop computers in a dial-up configuration. Stoprc can be used from any directory and has no dependencies on any other .dll or .exe files.
Because SMS 2.0 client components are started immediately when a computer starts, which is before non-static IP addresses are assigned over a RAS connection, the Remote Tools Agent will incorrectly listen to IP address 0.0.0.0. In the case of TCP/IP, use Stoprc to stop the agent, confirm that the workstation has acquired a valid IP address from DHCP or RAS (use Ipconfig or Winipcfg), and then use Stoprc to restart the agent. Upon restarting, the Remote Tools Agent will listen on the first available (and valid) TCP/IP address.
Stoprc has no command-line options. It either starts or stops Wuser32 depending on whether Wuser32 is already running.
