Changing a Value in a NOIDMIF File

Sometimes you need to use a NOIDMIF file to change the value of an attribute you created. To do so, simply change the value in the existing NOIDMIF file and replace the file in the target directory on the client.

For example, when an employee changes offices at Wide World Importers, the computers are usually moved as well, and the Office Location attribute for that employee’s computers must be updated. To change this attribute, use the following procedure.

Procedure Bullet  To change the Current Location attribute within the System Information component

  1. Change the value of the attribute within the existing NOIDMIF file by changing the Value field:
  2. Start Attribute Name = "Current Location" ID = 1 Type = String(50) Value = "Bldg 3 Floor 1 Office 1511"End Attribute

All the other fields within the NOIDMIF file remain the same. The previous value is maintained by SMS within Resource Explorer in the Hardware History folder.

  3. Replace the file in the following directory on the client:

    %Windir%\MS\SMS\Noidmifs

The file will be included as part of the next hardware inventory.
