Sometimes information becomes obsolete or is redundant within the SMS site database. In such cases, you can remove groups from an existing NOIDMIF file.
For example, Wide World Importers purchased an asset inventory program that creates its own custom MIF files that become part of the SMS site database. Because the Asset Number group is now redundant, the company’s administrators want to remove this group from all the existing clients. To do so, they edit the NOIDMIF file and remove this group. The resulting NOIDMIF file is as follows:
Start Component Name = "System Information" Start Group Name = "Office Location ID = 2 Class = "officeLocation" Start Attribute Name = "Current Location" ID = 1 Type = String(50) Value = "Bldg 3 Floor 1 Office 1511" End Attribute End GroupEnd Component
This NOIDMIF file is replaced within the target directory, and the Asset Number class is no longer collected for this client.
After Wide World Importers removes the group from the NOIDMIF file for a single client, they must extend the procedure to every client within the organization. For more information, see “Customizing More than One Client” later in this chapter.
