Importing Site Settings

You can import the settings in an SMS Site Properties Manager export file into any SMS site. You can import settings to configure a new synthetic site for your pilot project or to configure a new site server when you are deploying SMS 2.0 in your production environment.

After you begin managing your network with SMS, you can import temporary settings and then import your normal settings later. For example, you might want certain sites to use an aggressive hardware inventory schedule during a period of widespread hardware upgrades, and then return to less frequent hardware inventory after that period has passed. You can distribute the settings files for these two configurations to the administrators at those sites, and they can import the settings as needed.

Note   You can import or copy settings that are appropriate to the destination you have specified. For example, if the destination is a site hierarchy, you can import site configuration settings (such as the settings for discovery methods) but not collection and query definitions.

Procedure Bullet  To import site settings

  1. Right-click anywhere in the SMS Site Properties Manager window and then click Import.
  2. Specify the SMSBuild Data file (*.sdf) you want to import settings from.
  3. Select the check boxes for the settings you want to import and then click OK.
