SMS 2.0 discovers resources, which are objects that can potentially be managed by SMS, including computers, routers, printers, and user or group accounts. SMS 1.2 clients are discovered along with network resources and computers that are not yet SMS clients.
As resources are discovered, SMS 2.0 detects that some of them are SMS 1.2 clients through the presence of several “markers,” as indicated in Table 12.3. If SMS 1.2 client software is detected on the client, all SMS 1.2 software, initialization (*.ini) files, and registry keys are removed after the SMS 2.0 client software is installed. These SMS 1.2 clients will only be upgraded by SMS 2.0 if client installation methods are initiated.
