Software Metering: Processing an Offline Log File

Metered software that is installed on a client can be used while the client is unable to connect to the software metering server. For example, the client might be a laptop computer, and the application might be used while that computer has no connection to the network. In these cases, a client agent logs the usage of metered software if Force real time verification is enabled in the SMS Administrator console. When the client is next able to connect to the software metering server, it sends this log file to the software metering server where the information in the file is integrated into the software metering database.

You configure software metering options in the SMS Administrator console, but offline log files are generated on the client computer. When the client connects to the network, the log files are transferred to the software metering server, which adds the information to the software metering database.
