This component lets programmers access mainframe VSAM or AS/400 data by means of Microsoft's object-based OLE DB data access technology. Using this technology, applications programmers can source data from host systems without needing to learn host applications programming or SNA. The OLE DB provider allows a broad range of data integration, from individual record access to complete file replication. Using the provided OLE automation interfaces to OLE DB—called ActiveX Data Objects—web-to-host integration solutions can be developed quickly using popular high-level languages such as Visual Basic and scripting languages such as VBScript and JScript.
