The branch-based deployment model is the traditional way to deploy SNA gateways in an enterprise. Clients use LAN protocols, such as TCP/IP, to communicate with an SNA Server computer located on the LAN in the branch office. The SNA Server computer, in turn, communicates with the host using SNA protocols. With the branch approach, SNA Server computers are connected to a host through 802.2 (using routers), SDLC, or X.25 connections. Each SNA Server computer can be administered either locally or else remotely using Remote Access Service (RAS) or NetView.
