Why Use Transport Events?
You can use Microsoft® Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) and transport events to synchronously intercept mail or news messages and headers after the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) or Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service receives them but before they are stored or relayed to subsequent services.
You can use transport events to:
- Check for viruses.
- Redirect a message from its original delivery path.
- Block junk e-mail from specific originators.
- Create customized services such as auto-reply and out-of-office responses
- Archive messages.
- Create mailing-list services.
- Restrict the number of recipients who receive inbound mail based on sender domain or other attributes.
- Post messages that arrive through SMTP to newsgroups.
- Use SMTP to send messages that arrive through NNTP.
