MDAC 2.5 SDK - Overview of the MDAC SDK

Using MDAC 2.5 with Microsoft Visual C++

The MDAC headers are now generated with Microsoft® Interface Definition Language (MIDL) 5.0. This requires Visual C++® 5.0 Service Pack 3 or later, plus the new system headers shipped with the Platform SDK. The Platform SDK that ships with Microsoft Windows® 2000 Beta 3 contains updated MDAC headers and LIBs that will work with all versions of Visual C++. An easy way to determine whether you have the correct headers is to look for Propidl.h, which Oledb.h includes.

If you need the MDAC 2.5 headers, every application, provider, or service that uses the new MDAC headers must upgrade to Visual C++ 5.0 Service Pack 3 or later and to direct URL binding support.

If you use Visual C++, the following information will help you work with the new MDAC 2.5 headers:

If you stay with MDAC 2.1 headers, you do not need to make any adjustments. Consumers can continue to use Visual C++ 5.0 if they continue to use the old headers with the new components.
