Compacting the Database

Because the database adds your notes and also keeps a temporary record of your search queries, it can gradually increase in size. Periodically, you should compact your database to make the file smaller.

When you compact a database, the data and security permission settings from your original file are copied to a temporary file and then copied back over the original one, WINNTMSG.MDB. Before compacting, you should make sure that you have enough storage space on your disk (at least an additional 4 MB of free space) for both the original and the temporary compacted version of the database. The compacting operation will fail if you do not have enough storage space.
