Documentation Roadmap

This article discusses where you can find information about particular topics in the Microsoft® Direct3D® Retained Mode documentation.

If you are new to Retained Mode, start by reading the Interface Overviews to get an idea of common concepts. If you are new to three-dimensional (3-D) programming in general, read Technical Background. This background will help you understand the Tutorial and Samples. Consult the Reference, and especially the Interfaces for more details about what is going on in the code as you look at the Samples and Tutorial. The Glossary provides definitions for common terms.

Advanced developers might need detailed information about the DirectX File Format.
