Welcome to the Microsoft® DirectX® Transform documentation. The DirectX Transform API is a plug-in model that enables you to create animated effects for Microsoft® DirectAnimation® and Microsoft® Windows® applications. It is also a stand-alone set of two-dimensional (2-D) graphics tools for writing graphics applications and procedural surfaces.
If you are interested in creating Web graphics, you should probably see a few Transform Demos before reading the introductory material in the Getting Started section. If you are a graphics programmer, you might want to jump right into the Architecture or Understanding DXSurfaces overview article to learn about the capabilities of the DirectX Transform tools.

Getting Started |
Provides a basic introduction to what transforms do and how you can use them. It also explains the background and experience you need to get the most from DirectX Transform. |
Architecture |
Discusses some of the technical features of the DirectX Transform API. It is a good source for overview information on commonly used interfaces and DXSurface objects. |
Understanding DXSurfaces |
Describes DXSurface objects and how to use them effectively in your code. |
Writing Transforms |
Provides the general information you need to write your own transform effects with the DirectX Transform API. This section also includes transform examples, complete with the source code and Microsoft® Visual Studio® projects. There is also a transform author's guide, which provides a comprehensive list of hints for transform writers. |
Using Transforms |
Describes how to use a DirectX Transform effect in a Windows application. This section also includes sample projects and source code, and instructions on how to use the Photoshop adapter for transforms. |
Procedural Surfaces |
Explains how to design and implement procedural surfaces with DirectX Transform. |
Transform C++ Samples |
Includes a complete list of DirectX Transform sample applications and transforms included with the DirectX Media Software Development Kit (SDK) and instructions on how to build them. |
Transform Demos |
Enables you to see demonstrations of each transform, and shows some of the ways Microsoft partners use DirectX Transform for commercial development. |
Transform Reference |
Lists the 2-D and 3-D transforms included with the SDK for use in your applications. It also includes information about each transform that you need to use them in Microsoft® JScript® and Windows applications. |
C++/COM Reference |
Provides detailed information for C++ programmers about the interfaces, methods, structures, data types, error codes, and supported pixel formats used in the DirectX Transform API set. |
Glossary |
Defines some basic DirectX Transform terminology. |
