Exporting Data from Microsoft Exchange Server

The default export file format generated by the directory access functions is described in the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator's Guide.

To export data from Microsoft Exchange Server to a foreign system, it may be necessary to convert the data into a format that can be read by the foreign system. In some cases, this intermediate conversion step can be carried out with Microsoft Excel macros. The data can be inserted into an Excel worksheet, and a macro can move the information into the appropriate columns and rows. The worksheet data may then be imported into the foreign system.

Some information exported from a Microsoft Exchange Server directory may not be readable by a foreign system. In these cases, the importing agent for the foreign system must determine the significance of the information, whether to import it, and how to import it.

For more information about creating a process for exporting and importing data, see Creating a Directory Synchronization Agent.
