About the Role Administrator Sample Application

Role Administrator is an ADSI sample application used for creating roles and associating those roles with mailboxes.

A role is a special type of distribution list in which the owner of the distribution list, known as the role performer, becomes the recipient when selected through the Routing Wizard sample application. Only an administrator of the Microsoft® Exchange Server can create these roles.

Note  Roles of this type reside in the Microsoft Exchange Server directory and are not to be confused with the roles used to control permissions on folders in a Microsoft Exchange Server information store.

After a role has been created, a person using the Routing Wizard to create a route can use this new role as a recipient in the route. Currently, the Routing Wizard supports only the role of manager. Manager is defined as the person listed as the recipient's manager in the Microsoft Exchange global address list.
