Running the Sample

This section describes the screens that you can encounter while running the RuleASP sample.

Microsoft Exchange Server Logon Page

If you set up IIS correctly, this is the first page you see. If the sample is installed on the same machine as Exchange server and Outlook Web Access, this page should display the correct name of your server. If not, make the appropriate change. Enter a mailbox name against which the inbox rules are applied. Once these fields are correct, click Continue to Microsoft Exchange Folder Selection.

Use this page to select the folder against which the rules are applied. If the folder isn't visible, expand the appropriate folder(s) until you can see the folder against which the rule is applied. For example, if you want to apply a rule against the Inbox for the mail account TestUser, expand Mailbox - TestUser and select Inbox.

Rule Maintenance Page

Use this page to add, modify, or delete rules on a folder.

To add a rule

  1. Select Add.

Once you've added a new rule, you must click Submit to update the information store and make your changes permanent.

To modify a rule

  1. Select the rule you want to modify.
  2. Select Modify.

Once you've made your changes to the rule, you must select Submit to update the information store and make your changes permanent.

To delete a rule

  1. Select the rule you want to delete.
  2. Select Delete.
  3. Select OK to delete the rule.

Once you've deleted the rule, you must select Submit to update the information store and make your changes permanent.

Add Rule Page

Use this page to add a rule.

To Add a Rule

  1. Set the rule condition in the section When a Message Arrives that meets a certain condition:. You can specify a condition for messages from specific addresses, sent to specific addresses, sent directly to you, copied to you, or that contain specific text in the subject or body of the message.
  2. Select Add next to the From box to specify messages from a specific address. If you add an incorrect address, select the address and select Remove to remove that address.
  3. Select Add next to the Sent-To box to specify messages sent to a specific address. If you add an incorrect address, select the address and select Remove to remove that address.
  4. Select the Sent Directly to checkbox to specify messages sent directly to you.
  5. Select the Copied (CC) to checkbox to specify messages copied to you.
  6. Enter text in the Subject text box to specify messages with that text in the subject.
  7. Enter text in the Message Body text box to specify messages with that text in the body of the message.
  8. Set the rule action in the Perform these Actions: section. You can delete the message or return some text to the sender. You can also specify that this is the last rule run against the folder.
  9. Select the Return to Sender checkbox to return the message to the sender.
  10. Select the Delete checkbox to delete the message. Note: By selecting Delete you are implicitly selecting the Do not process subsequent Rules checkbox.
  11. Select the Do not process subsequent Rules checkbox to specify that this is the last rule run against the folder.
  12. Select OK to create the new rule or Cancel to cancel the operation.

To modify a rule on a folder

  1. Select the rule to modify.
  2. Select Modify.

To modify a rule

  8. Set the rule action in the Perform these Actions section. You can delete the message or return some text to the sender. You can also specify that this is the last rule run against the folder.
  9. Select the Return to Sender checkbox to return the message to the sender.
  10. Select the Delete checkbox to delete the message. Note: By selecting Delete you are implicitly selecting the Do not process subsequent rules checkbox.
  11. Select the Do not process subsequent rules checkbox to specify that this is the last rule run against the folder.
  12. Click OK to create the new rule.
