Platform SDK: Exchange 2000 Server |
[This is preliminary documentation and subject to change.]
A recipient can be a person (user), a folder or a group. The following defines the types of recipients with respect to their object and mailbox type.
Recipient type | Email address | Actual mailbox in store |
---|---|---|
Mailbox-enabled recipient | Address can be a store mailbox or set to a forwarding address. | The mailbox is private for the recipient |
Mail-enabled recipient | Mail is forwarded to this address. | No mailbox. |
Mail-enabled folder | An address to the folder. | The "mailbox" is a folder in which items are posted |
Mail-enabled group | A group address. (Mail is routed to those in the group.) | No mailbox. The group serves essentially as a distribution list |
When any of these recipient types are disabled, then the Exchange 2000 server does not provide access to them via standard email protocols. From an email perspective, the server does not recognize the address unless they are enabled.
