Aliasing

Aliasing is a mechanism that allows multiple aircraft containers to reuse the same files. After the files have been created, you can share files among several aircraft containers; you can refer to, or alias, the files from any aircraft container. Aliasing is specified at the Panel.cfg, Model.cfg, and Sound.cfg file level, so it is completely transparent to the Aircraft.cfg files. As a result, multiple aircraft can alias the same file(s). The following example shows a Panel.cfg file that aliases a panel in aircraft\panels\F117.

In the preceding example, aircraft\panels\F117 contains an ordinary Panel.cfg file with no alias key as well as the typical panel files.

Note: The Panel.cfg file in the preceding example can be used in place of any other Panel.cfg in an aircraft container. The syntax for aliasing is identical for Model.cfg and Sound.cfg files, as well.

Flight Simulator searches for the aliased files in the following order:
