A character that can be used to represent a character or sequence of characters in a path. A question mark (?) can represent a single character. An asterisk (*) represents any sequence of characters. For example, if you request a listing of *.txt files in a particular application, you would see a list of all files ending with the extension txt. See also file skeleton.
