Platform SDK: Web Telephony Engine

About Web Telephony Engine

The Microsoft® Web Telephony Engine (WTE) is a system-level component that renders HTML code over the telephone. WTE lets you use HTML and other Web technologies to create single-source, dual-access Web sites and speech-enabled, interactive voice response (IVR) applications. You can accomplish this with WTE almost as easily as you can build a conventional Web site and with far less difficulty than when you create traditional IVR applications. Building traditional IVR applications typically means you must learn a complex, often proprietary language.

This section gives a general overview of Web Telephony Engine applications and technologies, explains the benefits and opportunities that WTE provides, and describes the various WTE components and features. For information about specific topics, see the following sections:

If you are interested in learning more about developing dual-access Web sites and IVR applications for WTE, as well as exchanging news and information with other WTE developers, you can subscribe to the Usenet newsgroup, microsoft.public.platformsdk.telephony.wte.
