Web Telephony Components
Web telephony includes the following components:
- The run-time engine, which renders HTML and Web scripting languages over the telephone.
- The administration user interface (UI), which is used to configure Web Telephony Engine (WTE) and to install and configure Web telephony applications. The COM interfaces that service this UI are also exposed for you to create customized administration and configuration tools, set configuration parameters during installation, and embed as objects directly into your WTE application.
- The application programming interface (API), including the extended object model and the pertinent HTML elements and rules that allow these elements to be rendered over the phone.
- Access to the TAPI 3.0 Call object, which enables telephony operations such as call transfer using the TAPI 3.0 scripting API.
Together, these components provide a flexible platform for telephony-accessible Web sites. Because Web telephony is based on Web technology, it is easy to extend its capabilities to interact with other Microsoft Internet and e-mail products such as Internet Information Services (IIS) and Exchange. Moreover, the HTML-based design facilitates single sourcing of a business telephone and Internet/intranet information.
