The Other Speech Engine Support page is updated with a pointer to Elan Text to Speech’s Web page for Agent developers. There you can find sample sound clips of the speech engines, as well as technical and licensing information.

Today at Spring Internet World ’99, Microsoft announced the Microsoft Agent Logo Program (read the complete press release). This program allows application and Web developers to identify their applications, products, and Web sites as using the Microsoft Agent technology by displaying the official "Uses Microsoft Agent Technology" logo. It provides a description of the technology, its key features, application ideas, system requirements, where to get additional information, etc. The downloadable .doc version is even formatted so it prints on one double-sided page.

Microsoft’s publication for Internet Developers, MIND, provides an informative article about Microsoft Agent in their April 1999 issue (on newsstands March 30). The article, "Uncork the Power of Microsoft Agent 2.0" , is a great introduction to the technology for someone new to programming Agent.

In addition to the Microsoft speech engines that are provided with and support Microsoft Agent, a number of companies also offer speech engines with support for Microsoft Agent. This page gives you a brief overview of such engines that may be available in U.S. English and other languages. Information about how to install and access, as well as license and redistribute the engines can be found at their Web sites.

Microsoft Press announced the release of the Microsoft Agent Software Development Kit . The book includes Agent online documentation originally included in our Web site, as well as a companion CD that contains files from the Web site, including the Microsoft Agent core components, characters, Microsoft Speech Recognition Engine, L&H TruVoice TTS engine, code samples, the Microsoft Character Editor, and the Microsoft Linguistic Information Sound Information Tool.

As a result of the recent release of the SAPI 4.0a SDK Speech SDK, we have updated the following components:
End-user downloads
Microsoft Speech Recognition Engine
This update includes the revised SAPI 4.0a engine.
Speech Control Panel
The Speech Control Panel includes an updated version of the speech API dll included with the SAPI 4.0a SDK. It also includes a change to better support speech recognition engines supplied by Dragon Systems.
Developer downloads
Microsoft Agent Character Editor
This release includes the updated speech API dll included in the SAPI 4.0a SDK.
Microsoft Agent Linguistic Information Sound Editing Tool.
This release includes the updated Microsoft Speech Recognition engine included in the SAPI 4.0a SDK.
No other changes were made to the Microsoft Agent components. Users and developers may not need to update their software unless they want to take advantage of the updated speech components. For further information about the SAPI 4.0 SDK, see http://www.microsoft.com/iit/ .
Similarly, developers who are licensed to distribute Microsoft Agent or any of its components may not need to update their software. The primary purpose of updating the above components is to keep them in sync with the SAPI 4.0a release.
