Unable to Use MAILTO Tag with Internet Explorer 1.5

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer, versions 1.5, 2.0


SYMPTOMS

When you run Internet Explorer 1.5 on Windows NT 3.51, and you select a web page that has a MAILTO tag, the following error message appears:

No MAPI provider is registered.
When you run Internet Explorer 2.0 on Windows NT 3.51, and you select a web page that has a MAILTO tag, the following error message appears:
Unable to open mailto:<address>; the required internet protocol is not installed or the address may be invalid.
If this error message does not appear, you will get the MAPI send mail dialog box for filling in recipients and the mail message. However, when you try to send the message you will receive the following error message:
There is no mail server configured.


STATUS

This problem has been resolved in Internet Explorer version 3.0a for Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.5x.
