IIS Causes Memory Leak When Using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)

ID: Q192295

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) causes a memory leak when you use the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). By tracking the amount of private bytes for Inetinfo.exe, you will see that over time private bytes increase.

CAUSE

The memory leak occurs on each client accessed over the HTTP connection. IIS fails to free the memory allocated by Schannel.dll.
