Access Violation Occurs When Viewing Web Sharing Tab

SYMPTOMS

When you view the property sheet on any directory and click the Web Sharing tab, Windows NT Explorer access violates and you receive one of the following error messages:

Dr. Watson for Windows NT
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being
generated.
EXPLORER.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x6852344f
-OR-
OLEChannelWnd: Explorer.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x6852344f" referenced memory at "0xffffffff". The
memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the application.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, sign on as an administrator or with an account with administrator privileges. For more information on setting account privileges see the Windows NT documentation.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Internet Information Server version 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
