Internet Service Manager Does Not Allow Wildcard Redirections

SYMPTOMS

When you use a redirect wildcard that begins with an asterisk and a semicolon (*;) as described in the Help file, you will receive the following error message:

The path is not a valid URL.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Internet Information Server version 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.


MORE INFORMATION

Redirect variables are used to pass portions of the original URL with the destination URL. Redirect wildcards are used to match any number of characters in the original URL.
