Access Violation Occurs in Syscomgr.exe When Upgrading from IIS 3.0 to IIS 4.0

SYMPTOMS

Alpha platform:

When you upgrade from Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) version 3.0 to IIS 4.0 and select "Upgrade Now," a Dr. Watson message regarding Sysocmgr.exe occurs. If you choose "Upgrade Plus," the installation will continue after you select the components to install; however, when you get to the "Next" screen (asking for the details of the Administrator for the Transaction Server), you receive the same Dr. Watson error:

Sysocmgr.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The Procedure Entry Point ?SZStripLastBS@@YAPADPAD@Z could not be
located in the dynamic link library ADME.dll

-OR-

X86 platform:

After the installation copies the Windows NT Option Pack files, the following error message occurs:
Unable to load module c:\winnt.sbs\system32\mtxex.dll. The system
cannot find the file specified. Error Code =0x00000002

More errors will follow and the installation will fail.


CAUSE

Control Panel was open during the install of the Windows NT Option Pack.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Internet Information Server version 4.0. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
