SUMMARY
The purpose of this article is to explain how to install, use, and uninstall the IIS Security "What If" tool. The IIS Security "What If" tool is a Dynamic HTML (DHTML) utility designed to assist in troubleshooting security issues with IIS.
NOTE: This utility requires a DHTML-enabled browser and has been tested with Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 4.0 and 5.0. While it should work with most DHTML-enabled browsers, Microsoft cannot guarantee compatibility with third-party Web browsers. As such, this article has been written specifically for use with Internet Explorer.

Installing the Utility
- Download the utility to your desktop.
- Double-click the Iisperms.exe file.
- Click Yes to install the files.
- Click Yes if you agree with the End-User License Agreement.
- Specify a directory to extract the files to.
- Click OK when the installation is complete.
Using the Utility
- Locate the folder that you specified during the installation using Windows Explorer.
- Double-click the Iis_permissions.htm file.
- When the page opens in Internet Explorer, choose the following options:

- After choosing the above options, click the Check button and the graphics display will be updated to show which computers and resources the client will be able to reach based on the conditions specified.
Uninstalling the Utility
- Locate the folder that you specified during the installation using Windows Explorer.
- Delete all of the following files:
- Arrowright.gif
- Arrowup.gif
- Browser.gif
- Iis_banr.gif
- Iis_permissions.htm
- Iisserver.gif
- IisserverNo.gif
- Remotefile.gif
- Remotefileno.gif
- Rightarrow.gif
