IIS 3.0 Remote Computer May Fail after Applying Service Pack 4

SYMPTOMS

When a computer running IIS 4.0 is configured to remotely administer a computer running IIS 3.0 from the IIS 4.0 MMC (as described in Q183736), the configuration may fail and the ability to remotely administer the remote IIS 3.0 computer may be lost after applying Windows NT Service Pack 4.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT 4.0 service pack that contains this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT 4.0 SP 4.
