ID: Q236947

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0
  • Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 4.0
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 with the Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack on a Windows NT computer, the use of server-side include (SSI) files may cause the Ssiinc.dll file handler to create a log of SSI file requests that have not been placed with a status of 200.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or the individual software update. For information on obtaining the latest service pack, please go to:

For information on obtaining the individual software update, contact Microsoft Product Support Services. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information on support costs, please go to the following address on the World Wide Web:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6.

MORE INFORMATION

SSI files are commonly used to allow content authors to include the contents of one file inside another. This allows the easy creation of script libraries or page headers or footer. SSI files, like Active Server Pages (ASP) and Internet Database Connector (IDC) files, are script-mapped by file extensions to a pre-processor DLL. In the case of SSI, the handler is the Ssiinc.dll file. The code for the Ssiinc.dll file in Internet Information Server 4.0 has been corrected to prevent this faulty logging.
