Web Site Operators Receive Error When Creating New Virtual Directory

SYMPTOMS

When an operator of a Web site creates a new virtual directory with the HTML Administrator (HTMLA), the following error message occurs:

Microsoft Internet Explorer
An error occurred 70(46)

The operator cannot see the new virtual directory using the HTMLA.

WORKAROUND

Despite the error message described above, the virtual directory is created, and can be viewed or modified in the Internet Services Manager snap-in. In addition, a user logged in as an Administrator can also see the virtual directory in the HTMLA, and modify the properties.

To view or modify a new virtual directory after creating it, close the HTMLA, and then browse to the HTMLA Web site.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Information Services version 5.0.
